Korean A: Language & Literature (SL/HL)

This course engages students with a wide range of texts, from classical poetry and plays to modern journalism and multimedia. Students explore how language reflects identity and culture, connect texts thematically, compare meaning across contexts, and strengthen analytical and critical writing skills. HL students study additional works, complete the HL Essay, and respond to more demanding comparative Paper 2 questions.

Common Challenges

Older texts can be linguistically and culturally complex, and students often struggle to integrate historical and cultural context into their analyses. Organizing and developing comparative essays under time constraints is another common challenge.

Guided Support for Students

Our native speaking teacher helps students unpack nuanced expressions, explain historical and cultural references, and build coherent, well-structured arguments. With guided practice in essay planning, HL Essay mentoring, and IO rehearsal, students gain the skills and confidence to succeed in IB assessments.
