English (First Language)
MYP English First Language isn't just about knowing the language. It's about learning to analyze texts deeply, write with clarity and purpose, and develop confidence in your own voice as a reader and writer. For most students, this is where English stops being passive comprehension and becomes active thinking.
Our tutors are certified native English speakers with IB teaching experience who guide you through the MYP English curriculum. They teach the analytical and writing skills MYP assesses in Criterion A (Analysing), Criterion B (Organizing), and Criterion C (Producing Text), one-on-one, tailored to where you actually struggle. Native speaker instruction matters. They model authentic academic English and give feedback only a fluent reader can provide.
We support MYP English with Kognity, which helps scaffold key concepts and structures across the course. We also have extensive custom materials for writing practice in multiple text types (descriptive, analytical, persuasive, creative) and reading comprehension across fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Beyond MYP, we work with students preparing for Cambridge IGCSE through our specialist teacher network.
WHAT STUDENTS STRUGGLE WITH
Close Reading
Most students can summarize a text, but moving beyond plot feels impossible. Students don't naturally ask "why did the author choose this word?" or "how does this scene connect to the theme?" That's the leap MYP assesses in Criterion A (Analysing).
Essay Structure
A challenge for students is essays that feel rambling or repetitive. Students haven't yet developed an internal sense of what a paragraph does or how to build an argument across multiple ideas. Many students write, but aren't sure why it doesn't feel cohesive.
Finding a Voice
Many students feel their writing is either too casual or overly formal. Students are still learning that academic writing has a tone (confident, clear, but still distinctly theirs). It's hard to know which is which.
Using Evidence
A common challenge: students can identify a good quote, but embedding it into an argument and explaining its significance is a different skill. Many end up with isolated quotes that don't quite prove their point.

Here's what a tutor will and won't do: They'll teach you how to write well. They won't write for you. In every session, you do the writing. Your tutor guides, models, and gives feedback.
