Norwegian

Our Norwegian tutoring program for middle and high school learners focuses on building strong skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking while nurturing interest in Norwegian language, traditions, and modern culture. Through personalized tutoring sessions, students gain the tools they need for academic success and for progressing confidently into more advanced Norwegian study—whether they are learning the language from the beginning or reconnecting with their Norwegian roots.

Tutors use leveled texts, short stories (noveller), cultural materials, media clips, and practical communication tasks to help students understand both the language and the cultural context that makes Norwegian meaningful.

Focus by Level (A1–B2)

A1 – Foundations

Tutors help students learn basic sounds, pronunciation, and essential reading and writing skills. Simple sentences are introduced through guided practice, allowing students to talk about themselves, family, and everyday life. Cultural elements—such as Norwegian nature, food, or classic folktales—keep tutoring sessions engaging.

A1–A2 – Expanding Communication

Tutoring expands vocabulary and helps students connect sentences more naturally. Students learn to talk about hobbies, school life, weather, Norwegian culture, and daily routines. Tutors introduce simple authentic materials such as signs, menus, short messages, and weather reports. Listening comprehension grows steadily through structured practice.

A2–B1 – Building Conversation

Tutoring focuses on expressing opinions, describing experiences, and building longer conversations. Grammar becomes more meaningful through individual guidance in verb tenses, modal verbs, ordstilling (including the V2 rule), and connectors. Students write short paragraphs and explore cultural themes and age-appropriate Norwegian media with the tutor’s support.

B1–B2 – Developing Independence

Tutors help students increase fluency and accuracy with more detailed texts, extended dialogues, and structured writing tasks such as reflections and simple argumentative pieces. Exposure to current topics, short literary excerpts (eventyrnovellersakprosa), and cultural discussions strengthens analysis and comprehension. Tutoring at this level prepares students for more advanced high-school Norwegian.

Supportive approach

Our tutors provide patient, step-by-step guidance that balances communication, grammar, and culture. They model clear pronunciation, break down grammar in simple terms, and help students understand how Norwegian works in real conversations. Through individualized speaking practice, authentic listening tasks, and consistent feedback, students develop confidence and a genuine connection to the language.

Who's it for

This tutoring program is ideal for beginners or students with limited prior exposure who want to develop strong foundational Norwegian skills before more advanced study. Through consistent tutoring support, students gain the linguistic and cultural readiness needed for success in high-school Norwegian.

Native and heritage speakers—students who hear Norwegian at home, visit family in Norway, or want to maintain a connection to Norwegian culture—also benefit from individualized tutoring. Our tutors help these learners strengthen academic vocabulary, refine advanced grammar, and develop skills needed for high-level analysis and writing.

Heritage students work with Norwegian literary genres such as eventyrfolkevisernoveller, and sakprosa, and may explore well-known authors as appropriate for their level. Tutors guide them through textual analysis, structured essays, oral presentations, and targeted support for IB Language A and Language B expectations.

This tutoring-focused, personalized approach helps heritage speakers deepen their cultural connection while gaining the academic skills needed to succeed in advanced Norwegian study and IB assessments.
