Russian

Our Russian tutoring program for middle and high school learners is designed to build a strong foundation in reading, writing, listening, and speaking while nurturing curiosity about Russian culture, history, and daily life. Students gradually develop the skills needed for academic success in high school and to transition confidently into more advanced Russian study in the future.

Through interactive lessons, age-appropriate texts, media clips, and real-life communication scenarios, students learn not only the language itself but also the cultural and social context that brings Russian to life.

Focus by Level (A1–B2)

A1 – Foundations

Students learn the Cyrillic alphabet, basic sounds, and essential reading and writing skills. They begin using simple sentences to introduce themselves, describe family and daily routines, and talk about familiar objects and places. Interactive activities, visuals, and cultural stories keep learning engaging and accessible.

A1–A2 – Expanding Communication

Students increase their vocabulary and begin connecting sentences more naturally. They learn to talk about hobbies, school life, food, and everyday activities. Reading simple authentic materials—menus, signs, short messages—helps them recognize Russian in real-world contexts. Listening activities build accuracy and prepare them for faster, more natural speech.

A2–B1 – Building Conversation

Students start to express opinions, describe past experiences and future plans, and participate in longer conversations. Grammar becomes more meaningful: students practice basic case usage, verb aspects, and sentence connectors. Writing develops into short paragraphs, and students begin exploring cultural themes, short articles, and age-appropriate media content.

B1–B2 – Developing Independence

Students focus on increasing fluency and accuracy. They work with more detailed texts, participate in extended conversations, and learn to organize thoughts in longer writing tasks such as reflections, descriptions, and simple argumentative pieces. They are exposed to current events, cultural topics, and short literary or informational excerpts that strengthen their analytical and comprehension skills. These experiences prepare them well for future Russian study in high school and beyond.

Supportive Approach

Our Russian tutors provide patient, step-by-step instruction that balances grammar, communication, and culture. They model clear pronunciation, explain grammar in simple, accessible terms, and help students understand how Russian works in real life. With guided speaking practice, authentic listening tasks, and regular feedback, students develop confidence, fluency, and a growing appreciation for the language.

Who It’s For

This program is ideal for students beginning Russian or with limited prior exposure who want to build strong foundational skills before advanced high school coursework. By the end of this tutoring sequence, students will be well-prepared to continue into higher-level Russian classes with the linguistic and cultural readiness needed for success.

Native and heritage speakers of Russian can also benefit from our tutoring program. We offer individualized tutoring that helps these students strengthen academic vocabulary, refine advanced grammar, and develop the analytical reading and formal writing skills expected in IB Language A and Language B. Our tutors guide students through literary analysis, structured essays, oral presentations, and exam preparation tailored to their level. This personalized support ensures that heritage speakers are fully prepared to excel in their IB coursework and assessments.
