Turkish

At CHAPTR House of Education, our tutors support students at every stage of their Turkish learning journey — from Middle School beginners to High School students preparing for the IB Diploma Programme. Our Turkish tutors are native Turkish speakers, fully certified and experienced in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and as a heritage language.

We work with students who follow their school’s Turkish sequence (Turkish I, II, III, and IV), and we align our approach with the CEFR Framework (A1–C2) so parents know exactly where their children are and what they need to reach the next level.

How School-Based Turkish Levels Compare to CEFR

School CourseApprox. CEFR LevelStudent Abilities
Turkish IA1 (Beginner)Understand and use basic everyday expressions; introduce themselves; communicate in simple ways.
Turkish IIA2 (Elementary)Communicate about daily routines; describe past experiences; understand short conversations and texts.
Turkish IIIB1 (Intermediate)Participate in longer conversations; express opinions; understand authentic spoken and written Turkish.
Turkish IVB1+/B2 (Upper Intermediate)Discuss abstract topics; read more complex texts; express ideas clearly; explore cultural themes.

Turkish IV students are typically approaching the level needed for IB Turkish B and may begin bridging toward IB Turkish A, especially heritage speakers or native-level students.

Turkish I

In Turkish I, students learn the foundations of the language: greetings, introductions, numbers, family, school, and daily activities. They develop basic vocabulary and learn fundamental grammar such as present tense, simple sentence structure, and essential suffixes.

Students often find Turkish grammar unfamiliar at first, especially because of its suffix system and sentence order.

A tutor helps reinforce classroom learning through guided practice, conversation exercises, and clear explanations. We help students build a strong foundation, develop accurate pronunciation, and gain confidence speaking and writing simple Turkish.

Turkish II

Turkish II builds on foundational skills and introduces more complex grammar, including past tense, future tense, and expressing opinions. Students begin holding longer conversations and writing short paragraphs.

Students may struggle with combining grammar elements, expanding vocabulary, and speaking more spontaneously.

A tutor supports students by explaining grammar clearly, practicing conversation regularly, and strengthening reading and writing skills. Students become more confident and begin using Turkish more naturally.

Turkish III

Turkish III moves students toward intermediate proficiency. Students discuss cultural topics, personal experiences, and current events. They read longer texts and write more detailed compositions.

Common challenges include expressing more complex ideas, maintaining grammatical accuracy, and understanding authentic spoken and written Turkish.

Our tutors help students develop stronger conversational skills, expand vocabulary, and improve reading comprehension. Students learn to express themselves clearly and confidently.

Turkish IV

Turkish IV prepares students for advanced communication and academic work. Students explore literature, cultural themes, and authentic materials. They write longer essays and participate in deeper discussions.

Students often find it challenging to interpret complex texts, use advanced vocabulary, and write analytically.

Our tutors help students refine grammar, strengthen writing structure, and develop advanced speaking skills. We prepare students for success in advanced high school courses and IB Turkish A or B.
